Organizational Snapshot:

VSA arts of Japan is best known for its Saori weaving, a hand-weaving method founded in 1968 that offers individuals the opportunity to express themselves freely, regardless of age, gender, or disability. Saori is practiced across Japan, other countries in Asia, and North America at nearly one thousand institutions including special education schools, sheltered workshops, high schools, adult education centers, and rehabilitation centers for people with disabilities. VSA arts of Japan also sponsors local events and promotes art activities for people with disabilities, including fashion shows, arts exhibits, demonstrations, and trainings. Additionally, VSA arts of Japan organizes "Weaving in Pure Heart," a touring art exhibit showcasing the works and accomplishments of weavers. VSA arts of Japan joined the VSA arts network in 1989.
